The Leopold Center was established at Iowa State University through the
passage of the Iowa Groundwater Protection Act in 1987. This landmark
legislation recognized the importance of agriculture to Iowa's economy and
the protection of natural resources and improvement of rural economies as
essential for Iowa's future.
