May 20, 2009CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Local government, school and community leaders are invited to a statewide workshop to explore their role in expanding local food commerce through planning. The workshop will be held Wednesday, June 10 from 8:30 a.m. unit noon at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) at the University of Northern Iowa.
Presenters from Iowa cities, counties and schools will share first-hand experience in local food planning. Speakers will represent Linn County, City of Des Moines, Pottawattamie County, Story County, Iowa State University and UNI.
The event is free, but registration is required by e-mailing CEEE director Kamyar Enshayan at kamyar.enshayan@uni.edu At the end of the workshop, participants are free to go to lunch at area restaurants serving locally grown foods.
Sponsors include UNI, Northern Iowa Food & Farm Partnership, Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
