September 6, 2011CHARITON, Iowa -- Local honey, fresh-cut ham and seasonal vegetables—that’s just a handful of the items that will be available for sampling at the first Taste of Southern Iowa Local Foods Banquet held in Chariton on September 13.
The event will take place in Carpenter’s Hall from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., beginning with a social hour and ending with a buffet dinner. Participants will be able to see displays and visit with local vendors from dairies, apiaries, brew pubs, wineries, and orchards as well as beef, pork and bison producers. The cost is $10 per plate.
Taste of Southern Iowa is a local foods project sponsored by a competitive grant from the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture’s Marketing and Food Systems Initiative. Other sponsors are Iowa State University Extension, South Central Iowa Area Partnership and Tourism Lucas County.
