LC Logo Webinar: Addressing the Business Challenges to Increase Local Food Sales Commerce in Iowa

Four nationally known food system consultants for the Regional Food Systems Working Group visited and met with local food businesses and networks throughout Iowa in November 2010. In this webinar, those consultants share their observations and recommendations to build a stronger local food economy in the state. The project was funded in part by a grant from USDA Rural Development's RBEG (Rural Business Enterprise Grant) program to the Leopold Center Marketing and Food System Initiative.

The consultants were:

  • Rink DaVee, Green and Green LLC, Madison Wisconsin. Visited: Cherokee, Spirit Lake, Oneota and Decorah.
  • Leslie Schaller, Appalachian Center for Economic Networks, Athens, Ohio. Visited: Mt. Pleasant, Des Moines, Donnellson, Montrose, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Altoona. 
  • Anthony Flaccavento, SCALE Consulting, Abingdon, Virginia. Visited: Atlantic, Carson and Coralville.
  • Tom Kalchik, Michigan State University Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources, East Lansing, Michigan. Visited: Sioux City and Waterloo.
