Measuring Sustainability and Resilience Workshop This day-long workshop for past, present and future grantees of the Leopold Center focused on practical ways that research about Iowa's agriculture and natural resources can incorporate the concept of resilience. As defined by the keynote speaker, weed ecologist David Mortensen from Pennsylvania State University, resilience is "the ability of a system to absorb disturbance and still have all the essential elements it needs to function."
"Practical Applications of Sustainability and Resilience Goals to Agriculture" by David Mortensen, Professor of Weed Ecology, Pennsylvania State University.
"Measuring Sustainability and Resilience" with Laura Jackson, University of Northern Iowa; Matt Liebman, Iowa State University; Richard Sloan, Rowley producer; and Bahia Barry, Southwest Iowa Food and Farm Initiative. Moderated by Richard Leopold, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
