Field Work: A Family Farm Documentary and DiscussionMeet filmmaker John Helde as he follows Judy and Charlie Swanson and their three grown children pursuing their dream of farming as one extended family. His documentary "Field Work: A Family Farm" is a work in progress and follows the Swanson family through several seasons and looks at the social and economic challenges of family farming: rising land prices, changing technologies, and the barriers to entry for the younger generation.
It's a 21st-century portrait of the iconic family farm and America's changing agricultural landscape. A discussion with filmmaker John Helde and participants in the project will immediately follow the 96-minute film, and all guests are invited to stay for refreshments.
"Field Work: A Family Farm" is supported by Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs and 4Culture.
The screening is hosted by the Leopold Center, ISU Committee on Lectures (funded by GSB), ISU Sociology, and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
