The Iowa Learning Farms’ November webinar will feature Wayne Petersen, urban conservationist with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS). He will take attendees on a virtual tour of Iowa, featuring infiltration-based stormwater management practices in many of Iowa’s communities.

The webinar is part of a series, hosted by ILF, held on the third Wednesday of each month. The webinars are held over the noon hour through Adobe Connect. All that is needed to participate is a computer with Internet access.

Wayne Petersen has been in the field of soil and water conservation for nearly 36 years. He began his career as a Soil Conservation Technician with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in 1976. He has worked with agricultural landscapes for the first 20 years of his career and has been working with urban and urbanizing landscapes for almost 16 years. He went to work for IDALS in February 2008 to help develop the urban conservation program initiated by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey. Petersen works with Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Districts providing assistance to address resource concerns in urban areas. He focuses much of his attention on sustainable stormwater management strategies that protect water quality and reduce the quantity of runoff.
