Rural Advantage/Healthy Farms Conference

Keynote speaker is Fred Kirschemann, a North Dakota organic farmer and a distinguished fellow atthe Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Topics will address livestock grazing systems, high tunnel food production, marketing and distribution, cover crops, organic production systems, transitioning the farm, the 2012 Farm Bill and Nebraska ag issues.

The conference also will provide opportunities to farmers looking to diversify their operations, acreage owners wanting to produce extra income or teens looking for money-making projects they can do on their farm. Participants also will be able to network with experts, university faculty and fellow ag colleagues.

Another highlight of this year's conference is the Farmers Forum, sessions where farmers that have received NCR-SARE Farmer/Rancher grants will explain their grant project and what they learned from the project. Seven different grants will be highlighted by six farmers from Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.
