The Food Access & Health Work Group is a statewide network of food and nutrition assistance program providers, health professionals and food system stakeholders focused on cultivating a just and diverse food system that eliminates hunger, increases access to nutritious food and improves the health of all Iowans. Support for FAHWG has been provided by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Fiscal administration provided by the University of Northern Iowa.

  • The Role of AARP Iowa and the AARP Foundation in addressing Hunger Among Older Adults, Ann Black, AARP Iowa Associate State Director for Communications
  • State of Food Insecurity Among Older Iowans, Carlene Russell, Nutrition Program Manager, Iowa Department on Aging
  • SNAP Barrier Busters: Dispelling the Myths of Iowa Food Assistance, Cindy Jones and Amy Costliow, Iowa Food Bank Association SNAP Outreach Coordinators
  • Food Assistance Outreach with Older Adults, Barbara Fuller, Nutrition and Health Program Specialist, ISU Extension and Outreach

Afternoon activities include

  • Strategies for advancing food access and health among older Iowans. Small and large group discussion
  • Update on the Iowa Food Gardening Social Marketing Initiative
  • FAHWG Partner Networking
  • Evaluation & Adjourn
