A new generation of resources and tools for business
planning, niche marketing and other farmer-led
efforts were introduced at this workshop hosted by
the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
More than 150 people attended this day-long event, that
featured presentations by leaders of 32
projects funded by the Center's Marketing and Food
Systems Initiative and the Regional Food Systems
Working Group (also coordinated by the Leopold
Center).
Results and updates for funded
projects were presented during concurrent sessions
on:

Economic impacts of regional
food enterprises,
-
Consumer research on sustainably-raised
foods,
-
New business planning programs
for food and fiber entrepreneurs,
-
Challenges and opportunities for
natural and organic meat production,
-
Tools to assist Iowa farmers and
farmer-led business networks, and
-
Place-based foods.
