Larson takes Leopold land ethic into new arenas

After more than eight years at the Leopold Center, a long-time communications specialist is taking a new career path.

E. Anne Larson now manages landscape maintenance services at Perennial Gardens, an Ankeny landscape design firm. While at the Center, Larson set up the Center's first presence on the World Wide Web and directed all media relations activities. She was instrumental in orchestrating the Center's 1997 Year of Water.

Larson came to the Center in 1992 from a similar position with the Iowa School Board Association. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, she also did communications work at the Iowa Arts Council. Since 1994, Larson has pursued a horticulture degree, which she received in August 1999 at Iowa State University.

In leaving the Center, Larson said she will take with her Aldo Leopold's philosophy about caring for the land. "I first read A Sand County Almanac in 1972," she said. "The Leopold Center's approach to helping Iowa agriculture become more sustainable has further cemented my firm belief in the land ethic."

Larson's tasks will be shared by the other members of the Center's communications team, Mary Adams and Laura Miller.
