Land-based business and entrepreneurship program at Indian Hills Community College

The Land-Based Business and Entrepreneurship program is in its second year at Indian Hills Community College (IHCC). The program is designed to provide area landowners, farmers, and young adults with access to land and skills either to start or further develop an existing agricultural- based business. Students can pursue an Applied Science Degree in agriculture or transfer to other local colleges or universities.

We have accomplished many things in the program thus far. We have hired an instructor, developed classes, and written curriculum. IHCC has secured articulation agreements with area high schools and universities in the state. We also have developed instructional test plots on the IHCC campus. We have helped organize a local farmer's market and hold numerous agricultural-related seminars. Many of these activities were accomplished through a grant provided by the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
